Tarleton Club Volleyball to host try-outs at the end of August

The Tarleton club volleyball team hopes to host tryouts for next season at the end of August. Here’s how to get involved.

The club team is coached by Skylar Granado, a senior child life and family studies major. As the club team coach, she is also a player. Granado is one of the team’s setters. 

Tryouts are hosted each semester with a $10 tryout fee. 

The tryouts are practice style; they include planned drills with two rounds of player cuts. After each cut the drill level increases to see the players talents.

Once the tryouts end, Granado reviews her notes and contacts the players she would like to join the team. 

There is a $150 one-time fee upon receiving a position offer. The fee funds travel, tournaments, uniforms and other gear needed during the season.

After the first semester, the fee is reduced to $50 each semester a player returns.

“The club team is a great way to get involved on campus, it’s also a way to continue playing volleyball after high school for those who didn’t get the chance to play officially for a college,” Granado said.

The team requires a time commitment of at least two hours, twice a week for practice. Along with the ability to travel to weekend tournaments averaging two to three weekends a month. 

The team plays in tournaments across Texas against other college club teams in the state. They typically travel up to four hours away for tournaments.

The team has competed in tournaments at the University of Texas at Dallas, University of North Texas and more.

“My favorite part about being on the club team is the bonds and memories that I have made with the girls,” said Eve Dial, a freshman middle blocker.

The team carries 12 to 13 players a season.

Granado looks for players who are dedicated and ready to put in the work. Tarleton’s club team face competitive programs and strive to work hard to keep up. 

To anyone thinking about trying out next season, “Go for it! Never miss out on an opportunity even if you may not make it. It’s worth the experience,” Dial said.
