Corrections, Clarifications, Letters

Texan News Service welcomes comments and questions from readers. You can email them to [email protected].

Any corrections, clarifications or letters concerning the newspaper and website will be posted here.

In the printed version of newspaper VOL. 11. NO. 3 in the article titled, “Did Tarleton prioritize LGBTQ+ awareness over Breast Cancer awareness” under the picture of four students standing in front of the LGBTQ+ flags the caption said the students were organizers of the event, however, this was mislabeled and they were actually volunteers.

-The article, “Did Tarleton prioritize LGBTQ+ awareness over Breast Cancer awareness?” incorrectly identified the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. The correct title is the Joe R. and Dr. Teresa Lozano Long Office of Diversity, Inclusion and International Programs.

-The article, “Carnival Americana comes to Stephenville” has been updated with the following information that states, “Tickets for Carnival Americana are $1 apiece and games/rides range from 2-5 tickets each.”

-The article, “Check out Moo-La Fest in Stephenville this weekend” has been updated with new information that has come out since it was originally published. The updates include the price of the Texas Forts Trail Wine Festival, the cost of tickets for Carnival Americana and that the hot air balloon rides are for sponsors only.

-Sorry for the confusion, “Hot air balloon glow nights featured during Stephenville Moo-La Fest” has been updated to say that hot air balloon rides are for Moo-La Fest sponsors only.

-Texan News Vol. 8, No. 2 was published on Oct 17, with a repeated cutline. The article “Tarleton linebacker arrested for organized criminal activity” was published with a photo of which the cutline should have been E.J. Speed is number 5 on the Tarleton State University Football team. Photo courtesy of Tarleton Athletics.
In the same issue an error appeared in the LGBTQ+ story. Tremewan’s major is Social Work, not Sociology.

-Texan News published the article “Erath County First Responders donate to Hurricane Harvey relief” on Sept. 17. Throughout the story, “First Responders” was not capitalized. Also, Ryan Drake was referred to as “First Lieutenant” but his title is “lieutenant.” A picture of the Erath County EMS truck was included in the article, but the Erath County First Responders traveled in the First Responders vehicles, not the EMS vehicles.

-A front-page story in the May 2 print edition of Texan News about a nutrition website rating for the Sodexo food service provider should have made clear that the rating was for Sodexo overall, and not specifically for Tarleton’s food distributor Sodexo franchise.

The “F” rating for nutrition, according to the website www.isitbadforyou, took into account Sodexo’s food at high schools as well as universities.

Also, the story incorrectly reported the number of universities Sodexo serves worldwide. It is more than 850, not more than 400,000, which is the number of employees Sodexo has worldwide.

–The online story, “Four sexual assaults reported in 30-day span at Tarleton State University,” didn’t disclose that even though they were reported on these dates, some of the dates the incidents occurred are different.

–In the August 14 newspaper story, “New vice president embraces Tarleton tradition,” the story mentions Dr. Boren’s son, but does not mention her daughter. The online version has been corrected as of August 26. Texan News regrets the error.

–Texan News published a voter’s guide on May 7 that did not include Russ McDanel, who is running for City Council, Place 4. The story has been corrected as of May 9. Texan News regrets the error.

–History professors at Tarleton State University wrote a letter to praise Managing Editor, Denise Harroff on her courageousness when discussing her opinion on Tarleton’s policies and practices. Click here: http://bit.ly/1qZKDJI
